Roadload U-tail® makes a Big Splash at the CV Show, NEC Birmingham

CV Show - Roadload U-tailAlmost one year to the day from the launch of the U-tail® concept vehicle at the 2010 CV Show, Roadload took a 240sq.m. stand at this year’s CV Show at the NEC to launch, not one, but three production vehicles.

A remarkable achievement for a small company working with a very small team burning the midnight oils.

The flagship model, and one which attracted much attention, was the U-tail® Combi with an impressive 3 tonne payload, more than the average 7.5 tonne truck and with lower operating costs. U-tail® Models 35 and 55 were also on show offering payloads of 1 to 2 tonnes together with chiller and freight boxes. Of particular interest to many visitors was the mobile workshop version of the U-tail® 35, presenting operators with an opportunity to drastically reduce fleet numbers by utilising the demount capability of the vehicle to leave the workshop on site whilst the vehicle delivered other workshops elsewhere.

CV show 2011Evident at this year’s show, after a year of publicity, was the realisation among visitors of the unique benefits of U-tail® vehicles and the impact that their ground loading/unloading and demount capability could have on their businesses. The Tesco logo displayed on two vehicles sent the message that the world’s foremost retailer had recognised the potential of U-tail®. Two vehicles, a Model 55 and Combi will be delivered to Tesco for a 6 week field trial by mid-May. They see the utilisation of U-tail®, in the role of an inner city delivery vehicle, as an important plank in their drive to provide a better customer experience by virtue of it replacing large articulated vehicles delivering to smaller stores.

Over the three days of the show Roadload’s stand attracted some 35 blue chip companies and many more organisations, including public bodies.  The company now expects a busy year with many orders to be placed over the coming months.
